A Foggy Day in London Town

I landed in London at 8am on Saturday and it really was a foggy day in London Town. I heard the Michael Buble version in my head, of course. My friends Anne, Matt and their son Christopher met me at the airport, it was so wonderful to see them again!
We spent the day walking around the town of Marlow. It is the CUTEST town! The buildings have such charm, the swans in the river, the people, the shops... everything about the place is lovely. Plus they have a Cath Kidston mere blocks from their house, so really, it's heaven.

Sunday we went to the Farnham Quilt Festival. Anne was amazed that there was such a turnout for quilting. One lady, who was working the fair, told us that they were lined up an hour before opening and pushing at the doors wanting in early. Both she and Anne were amazed at this behavior. I told them that was typical for a quilt show, you don't get between quilters and a good fabric deal!
This festival was different than a typical American, or even an English quilt show from what I understand. It was put on by several area quilt guilds and the vendors were there selling off old stock that they wanted to get rid of to make way for new. They also had tables of people selling off things from their stash they no longer wanted. I think this is a brilliant idea! A whole festival of deals to change over stock, plus a quilt show to boot. Hmmmm, maybe I'll have to work on doing something like that by us.

I also attended a the local guild's quilting bee last night. Such nice ladies! It was remarkably like a quilting bee at home. One woman was hand quilting a quilt top that she bought off of eBay from the US. Barb in my home guild does the same thing! It was such fun discussing quilting with people from a different part of the world. Two of the ladies brought with quilts for their grandchildren that they had made, a couple were knitting, another lady working on a kit she bought years ago and is just getting to work on now.

I'm still trying to figure out the whole photos in Blogger thing from my iPad, so for now please bare with me on the column of photos without captions. All are from the quilt show portion of my weekend, except for the last two, which were the quilts from the ladies at the quilting bee.
